I’ve always wanted a doctorate degree. Dr. Desarae A. Veit sounds good, no?
I just got off the phone talking with Dr. Steve Hackenberger of CWU about getting involved in masters program. My current background is a little diverse with an associates in science (studied aviation technology, marine biology and radio television broadcasting) then transferred to Iowa State University to get my bachelors in Art and Design with a Minor in Military Science.
Since college I’ve studied personal branding, social media and have built a career in communications. I work as a web designer, social media community manager, interactive strategist, search engine optimization specialist and event planner. I know it’s a bit of a mouth full, easiest to say I help companies get online and then help them find clients.
I’m very interested in taking these skills to the next level and I hope with a masters that I can finally pursue my dream job. Whether my path leads me to the government sector, working with corporations or into academia I’d like to think that understanding the way people think will help drive my communications and marketing efforts. If I get a masters I think the areas that would be the most interesting to learn (and the most helpful) would be business management, communications, marketing, ethnology and anthropology (I’m the most interested in ethnology, anthropology and communications). With those diverse interests I’m hoping for a second opinion on how to narrow the focus and build a masters program that will help me in my career and not just learning a few fun facts. Thoughts? Please leave a comment below.
My dream job would be one of the following situations:
Working for Google managing strategic development for future technology, public speaking on the future of technology in relation to interpersonal relationships with world wide travel and lots of opportunities to meet new people. I love developing new ideas and being at the forefront of new technology and developments.
OR
Working for the government in the intelligence community. Preferably a position with lots of travel (perhaps even working in aviation or administration), working with people and leveraging my creative skills. I’m very interested in Government 2.0 and helping the branches better utilize cross communication to improve efficiency. In this position it would be nice to double as a professor for the National Defense Academy. I enjoy attending networking events, building strategy and theories based off current metrics. My ideal masters program would teach me how to better form those arguments to create more efficient and successful business plans.

I really appreciate your time and any thoughts you have that would help me make an informed decision. I’m looking for a job in the aforementioned fields if you are an employer hiring in the Washington state, California or general Earth area (not including areas with a affinity for large amounts of snow fall).
