The whole point in hiring a person or team to do your search engine management is to optimize your website and increase PageRank. Increase your site’s PageRank on Google and you’ll receive more page views in turn hopefully generating revenue.
For this post, we will just skim through some of the actual roles for a search engine specialist, and I will say they have a lot of time consuming tasks that lead up to that big picture. Some of those tasks are using meta data, checking for accurate code, analysis of site statistics, and search engine marketing with affiliates and publishers… just to skim the surface.

Once you’ve determined who you want to work with cover some of the following questions to help your company better navigate your online site/content strategy.
- Why do you have a site?
- Brand Promotion?
- Selling Products?
- Does your company do online sales? Where is the ROI?
- Lead Generation (to get contacts)
Set solid expectations so that you both know what you deem a successful campaign and saying I want to be #1 on Google isn’t that solid goal. Yes, in theory that is what your aiming for but NO ONE can promise you’ll be “#1 on Google” and here is why: IF you say you want to be number one on Google, you are making a blanket statement to the whole internet. Be specific and say I’d like to be on the first page of Google (not necessarily number one) for the following terms. Set priority ranking to the ones you think are the most important, your specialist should be able to help you determine which keywords are the most important by figuring out your target market. They may even bring in a research team to start things off. Knowing your product and which services make the most money for you will really help. The SEO team will take those keywords and a list of your competitors to do an online analysis and keyword research. This helps them find more keywords related to your site. They can even figure out which ones will have the most competition, the average amount of searches and then they will try to find a happy balance between the ones with a lot of searches and very little competition. It’s all about content and knowing your audience. If you know your audience you can deliver quality content that is relevant to them.
After you’ve started your campaign monitoring become incredibly important. Searches are always changing, who searches and so are the algorithms. That’s why fresh content is great. Stick with it and expect to fail a little. Failure isn’t bad, it’s giving up that kills you.
Good luck with your SEO. I’ll post more on this topic soon. If you have any questions or comments, leave me a note below!
